The Maldives I – A troubled journey to paradise

Living in Vietnam has some advantages – for example you are not too far away to some of the exotic places you have always dreamed of visiting. For this year’s Tet (some people might know it as Chinese New year) I decided to leave HCMC to visit one of these places. I was finally going to the Maldives. However, this was not a solo trip for a change, as I travelled with my girl friend – our first long distance trip to be precise. So no pressure!!!

Mekong Adventure I – Making it to Ben Tre

I was looking forward to November 2018 for a very simple reason – my big sister (age wise, not height wise) arrived in Vietnam to visit her favourite brother (that is me in case anyone is wondering). As she is a big motorbike girl and travelled through countries in Asia and Europe by bike doing a motorbike trip was an obvious choice.

10. HCMC has me back – again!!!

21.05. – 23.05.2016

Without any delay I saw the by now familiar view from the air when I once again arrived in HCMC – for the 7th time to be precise. Getting out of the terminal (strangely they only ever check your luggage and ticket when getting out of the domestic terminal) was straight forward and once again I was standing outside the terminal, ready to enter the mayhem HCMC has to offer.

9. Hanoi, Mr. President and more changes

19.05. – 21.05.2016

Later than expected I was back in Hanoi – the adventure to the north-east still fresh in my mind. Getting off the bus I got hit by strongly by the heat. Oh, I missed the cooler north already. Trying to find my bearing at My Dinh I instantly had to fight off the swarm of taxi and Xe Om drivers who jumped towards me like a pack of wolves would do if they spot Bambi.

6 – Taking a break in Meo Vac

13.05. – 15.05.2016

After riding nearly 200km from Cao Bang I finally made it to the Ha Giang region, Meo Vac to be precise.I have read about the large Sunday market there, so I decided to stay two nights here. A day rest from riding the bike was probably a nice idea, before starting the Ha Giang Loop in earnest.
