Living in Vietnam has some advantages – for example you are not too far away to some of the exotic places you have always dreamed of visiting. For this year’s Tet (some people might know it as Chinese New year) I decided to leave HCMC to visit one of these places. I was finally going to the Maldives. However, this was not a solo trip for a change, as I travelled with my girl friend – our first long distance trip to be precise. So no pressure!!!

My second last morning on the island started as the previous one – slowly. Unfortunately my plan to attempt another dive day did fail, as the dive centre decided to head back to Turtle Island. So there was no rush in the morning.
After covering diving and relaxing on the beach I decided to do something else I have not done during my first trip to Phu Quoc – exploring the island by motorbike.

One advantage of living in Saigon is the proximity of some great places to visit – even if it is just a long (or in this case a very long) weekend. So I took the chance and decided to visit Phu Quoc island to relax for a few days.
After the late night at the pool party I did not go diving, and I took it very slowly. I managed to get breakfast and then took advantage of the location of my room. Off to the pool for a long swim, and returning to my room and balcony to stay there until lunch to read a book. Boy, it felt good to be lazy.
Even though I was in bed very late I didn’t want to miss breakfast. So I got up just before 9:30am, well, because food is only served until 10am. Sleep is overrated anyway.

After my brief stay in HCMC it was time to visit a new place in Vietnam – which I always find very exciting: Phan Thiet here I come. And it was not just normal trip. I was invited to visit the family of my friend’s Thuy’s sister-in-law Thuy (2). So my first visit to someone’s family in Vietnam. Now that is even more exciting.
