The final place to visit during this trip was Con Dao – an island 150 km way from the mainland, and therefore off the usual tourists route.

For the 10 hour train journey from Quy Nhon to HCMC I got the upper berth on train S1. It seems the indication at the station to get a lower berth got lost in translation. The train was busy, with the my cabin being filled at the next station.

After 3 nights in Quang Ngai it was time to continue my journey. The next stop was Quy Nhon, a town I heard about quite a bit, and it was on my itinerary from the start.

After spending time in the touristy place of Hoi An that lacks heavy traffic, the peaceful Cham Island and discovering more of rural Vietnam arriving in the big city of Quang Ngai was quite a shock.

After Hoi An I decided to explore a bit the less touristy area between Hoi An and Mui Ne. The first stop was Quang Ngai. Instead of a boring train journey I decided using my favourite transport mode to get there – riding pillion on a bike.

When I planned my trip to Vietnam I considered straight away to go diving. When I spent time at the Dive bar during my last stay I couldn’t stop the video they played from their dive trips. It just looked great.

The plane arrived over an hour later than expected in Danang. Without any immigration I headed straight to the baggage claim area – and instead of waiting at a queue for immigration I waited for my bag instead. Even though it is an international airport, Danang airport is not too big, so the wait for the bags was not too long.

Nearly 24 hours after leaving Germany I finally arrived in Ho Chi Minh City – at the very friendly time of 1:30am. The advantage of arriving that early / late is that not many planes arrive at the same time. So the queue for the VOA process was not busy.

Just six month after leaving Vietnam I was able to return – courtesy of a cheap offer from Air China. It would have been mad not taking advantage to fly from Dusseldorf to Ho Chi Minh city via Beijing. The flight itinerary even allowed me to have a short stay in Beijing to explore the city (better than staying at the airport for 8 1/2 hours).
